“People forget what they are actually saying when they say ‘OMG’.
“We’re reclaiming ‘oh my God’ for the church.”
IT TOOK only three letters for a church to become the talking point of the neighbourhood.
The ‘OMG’ (‘Oh My God’) sign on St Paul’s Anglican Church in Australia, has become the subject of photos, laughter and an internet frenzy.
The Rev Howard Langmead said the sign was put there to “catch attention and be unexpected”.
I love the sign! I wrote this piece a while back… http://leonardlee.org/2010/09/21/omg-2/
Great, so now the church has to lower itself to abbreviated blasphemy in order to catch people’s attention?
I’m guessing that it caught the eye of the Lord, however.
You said it best. Too many green pastors are hell-bent on giving ‘culture’ what ‘culture’ wants. Australia, USA, wherever. Lowering standards is what today’s church does best.
How is this blasphemy?
Exodus 20:7…just in case your question was not rhetorical!
I was not being rhetorical, I just don’t think this qualifies for these reasons…
1) God is not his name, it is a title.
2) “Take” does not refer to speech primarily, it speaks to action. Meaning, do not carry my name when your lives do not match… this makes it vain.
Thank you Leonard… You’re exactly right. You might want to add that the KJV isn’t the inspired translation also!
