It’s coming to TLC sometime soon. The network has signed a contract to produce a show called “Preacher Wives” that will follow the wives of preachers in the Atlanta area.
“With most praise in religious communities directed towards male preachers, we are thrilled to give these remarkable ladies the spotlight they crave and deserve”.
That’s from True Entertainment president Steven Weinstock.
I’m not sure who made the determination that
1. these ladies deserve the spotlight; or
2. that these ladies crave the spotlight.
The list of ‘preacher’s wives’ hasn’t yet been announced. We’ll see who shows up on it.
I’m doubting that Sandra Stanley will be one.
Eddie Long’s soon to be divorced wife could be a possibility if they want to chronicle the divorce.
Who else from the Atlanta area would you expect to see show up on a show like this?
And who would you WANT to see?
And finally… would you watch?
It would be hard to get any more strange or bizarre than Eddie Long is in the real world. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AVkoQHCXSK8
Wow, Jay, thanks for sharing that. What a circus! What a bunch of made-up hooey… kinda disgusting…
Given that media’s job these days appears to be to help move and position Christianity into a “marginal and downscale” box, my assumption is that the cast members will be 25-54 year-old, rather petty women from minority and smaller “southern” churches and 60-65 year-old white women with big hair and ever-present pearls from larger churches in the suburbs who look down their noses on the former.
TV in general (and reality TV in particular) believes there is no drama (as in “story”) without conflict…such a cast would all but ensure such conflict while all but ensuring the typical, somewhat upscale woman (TLC’s target) finds reason to dislike them all.
Who would I want to see? Well, a Sandra would be at the top of the list, but she and others like her would easily see through producers’ daily plans, ask herself “what is the wisest, most-God-honoring thing to do in this situation,” and head off conflict before it would take place in front of a camera. Such traits make her and others like her completely UNdesirable and UNlikely to be cast.
I’m going to guess that Taffi Dollar will be involved.
Just makes me ill frankly.
More hot Christian booty.
WOW! is the only thing that comes to mind. I am interested in who makes the cast.
This might end up being a good thing. Obviously, the intention of TLC is to minimize the Christian faith, and to frame it in an unattractive light. So, most likely, the cast will be made up of the Eddie Long and Creflo Dollar types of wives-those women who love to flaunt their jewels and expensive cars, etc. Still yet, it might be good for their parishoners to see them behind the scenes-to see the opulent life styles they live, but how they have no shame in begging for money every time they are on television. In recent history, when it was revealed how Richard Roberts lived such an opulent life style on the giving to his and ORU’s ministry, their giving dropped off significantly, as well.
I’m also reminded of when Jimmy Baker wasn’t corrected by the Church for his sin, and how God used secular news stations to reveal his lifestyle and to bring him to repentance. God may also be putting in place a television program to reveal and call to repentance these ministries, as well. Anyway, just a thought. This may be a “what man means for evil, God means for good” moment.
@Jim… you have a great point… however, the lifestyles of the preachers wives shouldn’t be the focal point… yes, some of them live extravegent lifestyles… but, most of them live it because of their businesses… most of these preachers are productive business owners…
