Ed Young, Jr., Rap Star

Um… I’m not sure what to say about this one.  But I’d love to hear your comments…

  1. Brent Peak says:

I’m afraid Ed Jr. jumped the shark a long time ago.

  2. Christopher Fontenot says:

Joel Osteen, TD Jakes, Brian Houston, Jentezen Franklin, & Joseph Prince….what an all star lineup of weak and heretical preachers. Ed Young is a joke all under the guise of being relevant. What a shame.

  3. JB. says:

I like it. It’s creative, unusual, and fun. It’s not the typical ad for a conference, but I believe it’s effective. I personally don’t care much for the theology of ( especially) Jakes, Prince, and Franklin, but they probably wouldn’t agree with some of my theological positions either.

  4. Greg MacMillan says:

I want these guys to be what they are touted as, but where is the Gospel? Topical motivational speaking with no real understanding of the Gospel is what is wrong with most of the mega church pastors and their flocks today. I am not trying to dis them or be rude, I just wish they would actually provide a solid instruction instead of just being hip and relevant AKA appeasing the masses.

  5. And the winner of my “Just Wow” award is….

  6. kjc says:

I think it is sad. The church is losing its way. Where is the honor at for our wonderful Lord Jesus. Fool activities will never win the masses.

  7. Mark E says:

Some of you guys need to chill out.
You will know them by their fruit.

So its a bit foolish…who cares?
If the world was meant to be serious all the time, God would not have invented the Platypus…sheesh.

  8. Richard says:

Wow…couldn’t make it past the first 15 seconds. Michael Scott on “The Office” does a much better rap parody.

  9. CS says:

What a fool. I’m just glad that this guy isn’t in charge of a church or anything.

    Oh, noes!

    CS

  10. Brian says:

Ed’s just having some fun trying to get fellow pastors and leaders to go to a conference. Some of the most creative things that have come out of the church in the past 10 years have come from the church he leads. Why not a silly rap song? It’s not conventional but then again either is Ed.

  11. Kip Keith says:

In light of the recent scrutiny on his finances, it seems unwise (and maybe a little arrogant) for him to be strutting around with a huge $ hanging around his neck . . .

  12. Leonard says:

    I thought this was funny.

  13. kjc says:

Funny !!! some of us need to chill out, wow !! I was lost half of my life and I sure am going to be serious about the Lord for the rest of what I have left. We are to be light in darkness. I used to go see black sabbath and all the hard rockers of the 70′s and 80′s, I have no time for such things anymore, I have to meet my Lord one day with what I have done with my life. People need help, people are lost. I live in the gulf region and people here are hurting and need more than such as this, there is no chill, Katrina now the Oil spill in this area where I am from there is only lost hope. Instead of dancing and rapping get Bro. Ed down here and lets get to helping this Gulf Coast.

  14. Brent says:

Lighten up, folks! Ed and his church are doing plenty to share the gospel and meet needs in their community and around the world. Just spend five minutes on the church’s website and you’ll figure that out.

Am I suspicious of his spending habits? Just a bit. Am I crazy about this video? No.

But I will not question his motives/theology/character because of one dumb video.

  15. Fred says:

It’s more “look at me!”- “look at us!” It is not look at Christ.

  16. jj says:

Hmmmmmm…. I’ve been hanging out with a lot of people who would not identify themselves of followers of Christ lately as well as believers who are keeping far away from the “organized church.” I’ve heard lots of reasons people are not following Christ and not attending church. “Christians have too much fun” and “Christians are not serious enough” are not the usual reasons. More often than not the reasons are “Christians are too judgmental, too harsh, too uptight or too condemning”. Personally, I believe some of the attitudes reflected in the comments are doing more harm to the gospel then Ed’s goofy rap… but just my thoughts ;)

  17. LOL! Are you kidding me! It really boggles my mind how people like this go on to become millionaires too. What happened to the good ole days of classic rock being cool. This is sad.

  18. rob says:

When did being a Christian begin borrowing? I’m no Ed Young fan, but let the guy have some fun!

  19. CS says:

    Brent:

“Lighten up, folks! Ed and his church are doing plenty to share the gospel and meet needs in their community and around the world. Just spend five minutes on the church’s website and you’ll figure that out.”

Boy, I hate it when I wake up to find that I’ve slid between dimensions into an alternate reality where the opposite of what normally happens is going on. =)

  20. Leonard says:

Hey Brent, I agree with you here. JJ you too. There are some posts that fly around the blog world that if I did not know Jesus I certainly would not be drawn to Him by these posts.

There is a mentality that assumes as long as I give out the gospel (in the way I think it should be give) I can be as big a jerk as I want to believers.

People get we are Christians by the love we have for one another. The problem we all have is that we assume that our opinions are truth because our opinions are filled with facts.

My friend was a detective for almost 20 years and he would always say, you can have right facts but that doesn’t mean you have the truth.

Lets laugh a little, smile a little and love a lot. Let’s share the grace of God that brings salvation.

  21. CS says:

    Leonard:

“Lets laugh a little, smile a little and love a lot. Let’s share the grace of God that brings salvation. ”

Dude, I totally agree with you here. I laugh tons and think it’s right to cut loose sometimes and have some fun. And we can even have this sometimes in church; last Sunday my pastor had us cracking up for a bit when he talked about the type of reception we expect some people to receive in Heaven.

But there’s a difference between enjoying ourselves as Christians and having fools behave in ways that will cause the world (not us in-house) to ridicule us. Case in point: Young Jr. on the Stephen Colbert Show where God was being mocked by his sex challenge campaign and he laughed at the host’s blasphemous jokes. Add to it a video like this, his recent monetary shenanigans (notice the $ around his neck?), and it’s just opening the door wider for further consternation and ridicule.

Additionally, you’re right in that people will know that we are Christians by our love for one another. But guys like T.D. Jakes (referred to on this video) are not Christians. Jakes believes in a non-Trinitarian god, which is different than the God of the Bible. And others like Osteen do not preach the complete Gospel. So there is some duty (Romans 16:17) for us to point this out and say, “No!”

Yes, my comments were harsh. But are they any more harsh than when Polycarp saw Marcion coming down his way and saying that he, “knows the firstborn of the devil?”

    CS

  22. Rusty says:

    Lame…..not even done well…

  23. jj says:

“Additionally, you’re right in that people will know that we are Christians by our love for one another. But guys like T.D. Jakes (referred to on this video) are not Christians. CS, I’m not sure it’s such a good idea for us to judge who is and who isn’t getting into heaven. I think it’s a better idea to let “God work out all our little heresies.” I have them, you have them too. It’s a good thing God doesn’t require perfect theology or we would all be in trouble. After all we are saved by grace, not perfect theology. If God can show grace toward Ed Young, I think it’s probably a good idea for you and I to do the same ;) Again, just my thoughts.

  24. Kip says:

So, would a little raw candor be better? Instead of trying to couch our criticisms in holy-speak, what if we just said what we’re really thinking: “Ed Young irritates my every last nerve and this is just another reason why!”

  25. CS says:

    jj:

“CS, I’m not sure it’s such a good idea for us to judge who is and who isn’t getting into heaven. After all we are saved by grace, not perfect theology. If God can show grace toward Ed Young, I think it’s probably a good idea for you and I to do the same wink Again, just my thoughts.”

This leads to the slippery slope really quickly. At what point do we declare the heresies to be too much? At what point do we break fellowship with someone who is outside of orthodox, historical, biblical Christianity? When does the theology and doctrine they’re teaching cross the line? Based on what you had said, it sounds like there is no such point, and we should have fellowship with everyone who uses the name, “Christian.”

Or, we compare this to 2 John where we are told if someone brings another Gospel, we should not accept it (also see 1 John 4 & 2 Tim 4).

And, a denial of the Trinity isn’t a, “little heresy.” That’s a huge one. And that’s one where Christians have to take a stand and say, “No!”

    CS

  26. jj says:

    CS,

From my understanding the word “trinity” is never used in the Bible. Most OT believers did not have a theology involving the Holy Spirit and yet God is able to save them. I think God is far more gracious than we realize. I also think he is more gracious than many Christians. Have you lusted (committed adultery in your heart?) Have you been angry with your brother w/o cause, hated (guilt of murder?) How about rebellion (as bad as witchcraft). I think we are all far more guilty than we realize. If God can forgive my murder, adultery and witchcraft, I believe that he can forgive others too… even if theirs looks a little different or is more socially unacceptable than mine. And don’t forget, it was the Pharisees, the one’s who were “clean” from all these things who were the “villains” of the NT. I’m thinking it’s better to be guilty and saved by grace than “innocent.” It is a slippery slope, but we are all at the bottom. Other people struggle in different ways than me, I would rather not be too quick to condemn, but it’s ok if you see things differently ;)

God bless you bro… enjoyed conversing with you!

  27. CS says:

    jj:

“From my understanding the word “trinity” is never used in the Bible.”

Just because that word isn’t used in the Bible doesn’t mean that God isn’t a Triune God. Refer to 1 John 5:7, for instance.

“If God can forgive my murder, adultery and witchcraft, I believe that he can forgive others too… even if theirs looks a little different or is more socially unacceptable than mine.”

Two different things. You’re right that God can forgive the most heinous of sins. But 1 John 3 says that a person who is actively participating in sin on a willful, regular basis is not a child of God but a child of the devil. So when people are actively engaging in teaching and promoting heresy, Scripture declares that they are outside of the camp and need to repent and believe in the one true God.

“And don’t forget, it was the Pharisees, the one’s who were “clean” from all these things who were the “villains” of the NT.”

The Pharisees were the bad guys because they were legalists and added to and distorted the Law, not because they maintained what was commanded in the Ten Commandments.

“I’m thinking it’s better to be guilty and saved by grace than “innocent.””

I agree. But even Paul said that those saved by Grace should not abuse the liberties thereof (Romans 6).

“Other people struggle in different ways than me, I would rather not be too quick to condemn, but it’s ok if you see things differently wink”

It’s not a matter of seeing things different than you, it’s a matter of what is right and what is not, because this conversation is focused on one of the closest core doctrines to the Christian faith. If I am wrong, rebuke and reprove me, and I will gladly repent. Otherwise, let’s not agree to disagree, but let’s work through this to find out what is right according to the Bible.

  28. RevKev says:

Thanks to JB, JJ, Leonard and Mark E (and others) for your comments that saw the fun directed to pastors and did not judge motives and whether or not other leaders are “true” christians. I haven’t really read comments here lately because much of the time the same people are so quick with the criticism.

Labeling, name-calling and attack will certainly not help me to be open to change my mind. I know it seems hard to believe that someone who has a different view of one scripture or another could have genuinely studied, prayed and sought God…

We need to respect the positions to which our brothers and sisters have come and, if desired, try to dialogue rather than question if they are truly saved and need to repent.

Pastoring 35 years and a lot more mellow that when I started. By the way… Ed in my opinion, is not a good rapper. I would be surprised if he thought he was.

  29. Fred says:

You know, people worship rock stars, movie stars, any star. Is it OK for pastors to become performers now? Is that where God is leading the leaders? How do you think it would turn out if they were put into a time machine and sent back to the church of Acts. How would they look compared to everyone else. Would they go and explain how things are supposed to be to Peter and Paul? Would they tell them that if they had enough faith and knew their secrets they could be blessed? Would they teach them a new dance step or tell them about the latest cutting edge worship series? Would they give them a class on how to grow your church?

Sorry for all the questions. :)

  30. Christopher Fontenot says:

    Leonard,

You said:” There are some posts that fly around the blog world that if I did not know Jesus I certainly would not be drawn to Him by these posts.”

This statement eliminates God’s sovereignty in salvation. If a person who is unredeemed is drawn to Jesus, it is because the Father draws him…not because of the blog posts of other Christians.

Truth is the only thing that matters and it’s not about “seeing things differently.” There is right and wrong and calling it “seeing it differently” does not make wrong right or right wrong.

JJ…Hypocritical judgment is the ONLY judgment that Jesus condemns. Righteous judgment is commanded by Him. Discernment also involves righteous judgment as well. So if someone sees Christians as judgmental it is probably because their conscience is convicting them of the truth being spoken by the Christian. Their reaction is to lash out by calling names and placing labels.

  31. Leonard says:

CF, you miss the point… It is how people act that is the point. I get the sovereignty of God just fine. Let me try to spell it out.

When Christians act like jerks… it is no longer letting a light shine…

The fact you come here to argue and in doing so you miss the point kind of proves the point.

  32. Christopher Fontenot says:

Leonard….you call it argue and I call it discernment. There are no gray areas with God. His way and His word is truth and everything than runs contrary to it or even “just a little bit close” is still wrong. I am not ashamed to stand for the truth of God’s Word even if it angers “professing Christians.”

  33. RevKev says:

CF, As a “professing christian” (apparently) it seems to me that you equate “…His way and His word is truth” solely with your own views. The rest of us who thought we loved Jesus and His word are just “professing christians” who need to repent of not agreeing with you.

  34. RevKev says:

This is silly. I’m going back to reading the posts and watching the videos. The comment section has sucked me in once again. God bless you!

  35. Leonard says:

RevKev, It is funny in a sad sort of way that you can make being a bully ok as long as you call it discernment or real love. The discernment crowd is all to quick to hide behind this approach. Twisting what people say, filling in gaps in the worst possible way is the pathway.

It is also why I comment far less these days. Every discussion turns into a “there doing it wrong” and “all those churches and all those pastors… ”

Discernment without a broken heart only makes you a bully and when you lack self awareness, you never know how much of a bully you are. I am out too.

  36. Q. says:

Leonard, was that really directed at RevKev? From what I read he was talking about respect… Just wondering my brother…

  37. Christopher Fontenot says:

RevKev…I don’t have saving truth. Only God does so agreeing with me will do no one a bit of good.

Leonard….if holding fast to the relevant, time-tested truth of all of Scripture and His plan of salvation makes me a bully….paint me a bully. I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

  38. Leonard says:

Q, my comment was directed to RevKev in agreement that it has become silly. In agreement that some posters here, like in the discernment type ministries are bullies.

CF, if the shoe fits… suit yourself.

  39. Mark says:

This video was played at the Hillsong conference as part of his introduction, it is not a series presentation of the gospel, nor was it a serious comment on the Hillsong church. Everyone had a great laugh and it was very tongue in cheek.

  40. Leonard says:

I thought the video was funny. Ed young is corny, even when he speaks and preaches. But I love his creativity and his willingness to put himself out there.

I like Joel Osteen. He is more ridiculed for what he doesn’t say than what he does say. Yet his church sees numerous people come to Christ, plugged into discipleship groups, they have ministries that serve the hurting and much more.

  41. Wow…it’s been a while since I’ve commented….but Geeeesh! First of all…I want to thank my Lord & Savior Jesus Christ for the countless lives that have been transformed for eternity through the “vessels” that have been bashed in this forum. Thankfully, he loves all of us enough to see past our shortcomings. Secondly, this was simply a promotional, fun piece…meant to be a promotional, fun piece. It was that…nothing more…so, don’t be frustrated by the fact there was no alter call at the end. No doubt…some of the same school of thought birthed from the “late adopters and nostalgics” that bashed Erwin MacManus for his Dorito commercial. God, help us remember that you do use “new things” everyday…kinda like your mercies that are new every morning. It doesn’t have to be agreeable with our “philosophy of ministry”. Honor God and the ministry He’s called you to and get over the “white-washed tombs” & “vipers” routine….Love you All!!!!

  42. sarcastic levity says:

YOU GUYS DON’T UNDERSTAND!!!!! Just because these pastors preach the word of God and help aid in nurturing environments where people can grow into fully devoted disciples and Christ followers means NOTHING if the discernment bloggers don’t approve of them first… LEARN THE RULES!!! ;-)

  43. Christopher Fontenot says:

“Yet his church sees numerous people come to Christ,…”

Leonard….Really? How do you know they are truly surrendered to Christ? If they never hear about sin, since Joel himself states that he never preaches about it, then how do they know they need a Savior? Just because they say HIS liittle prayer at the end of his broadcast, Joel believes they “Got Born Again”. Is that Biblical? Is becoming a Christian that easy?

  44. ChurchSalt says:

It seems like the heavy beat in rap music would tickle the ear, good thing Ed is around to scratch! This guy and those like him are popular because people want to worship the same gods he does….money and worldly culture. Have at it. Maybe cook up a quail dinner to eat while watching his next video…

  45. Pastor Rio says:

I love it ..I love it…it,s awsome to see the freedom to express thy self and have fun.. so CHILL>>>>> These men have churches that are doing awsome things in the kingdom of God… the church is not losing it’s way it’s making a away!!! so chill out folks and enjoy the video…

  46. Leonard says:

    CF,

How do you know they are not? God said whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. I guess I will have to trust that. I don’t meet too many people who do not know about sin. Again, you want to condemn him for what he doesn’t say. I have met people from his church, who came to a saving knowledge of Christ through his church.

Is becoming a Christian that easy… was for me. I said a little prayer and Jesus forgave my sin, entered my life and filled me with His Spirit. I have personally seen thousands upon thousands of people saved… They all called on the name of the Lord…

  47. ChurchSalt says:

Does anybody ever the whole counsel of God (and take it seriously) anymore? Not everybody who says a prayer is saved. If that were true there would be no warnings in Matthew 7 about those who called “Lord, Lord” but are lost. There would be no encouragement from Paul to the Corinthians to examine their faith to see if is legitimate, and 1st John (written so that we “may know if we know Him” would be completely unnecessary! These so-called pastors are making “a way” all right; they are making a way to your wallet…and they are blaspheming the name of God before all creation while doing it. We are commanded to call out false teachers. Just giving them a “pass” so we can all relax is wrong.

  48. Leonard says:

Church Salt, maybe you and some of the others here could just go to churches and let people know if they meant it well enough to get into heave. You and CF and some others seem to be able to tell who is in and who is out. In fact I am not sure we even need the Holy Spirit with you guys on board. Sarcasm intended.

  49. Brent Peak says:

This conversation has become so pathetic. Some of you need to get your Fundie undies out of a wad and lighten up.

Go ahead and question my salvation. I won’t be around to read it since I’m unsubscribing from these comments. I just can’t keep reading the pharisaical crap.

  50. CS says:

I think much like, “Godwin’s Law,” we need to call out the, “Pharisee Card,” technique for what it is. http://issuesetc.org/2009/03/07/playing-the-pharisee-card/

  51. Crystal says:

all the commandments can be summed up in these 2… Love the Lord your God with all your heart mind and soul, and love your neighbor as yourself…. Jesus said it. Why argue about controversial issues, its a waste of time. Jesus is coming soon. I dont care what people are doing GOD IS IN CONTROL! Lets love one another with the brotherly/sisterly love we are called to do. There is no condemnation for those who are in CHrist. Wake up and love each other! God will work all things out for good! Thank you Lord for your Son who died on the cross for us. Help us to not argue about things that dont matter and give us the desire to reach the lost and love our neighbors! and love YOU more with each breath!

  52. ChurchSalt says:

Is it loving to let others be deceived? Is it obedient to ignore Biblical commands to call them out? Is it better to be tolerant and “loving” or jealously defend the name of the one who redeemed us? Somehow tolerance has been elevated above truth, love and loyalty. And now those who do not embrace this tolerance are called pathetic and hateful?!? Wow.
I have learned long ago that blog comments do not influence, they only enflame. Please, folks….Go read your Bible.
    Bye.

  53. Jessica says:

Just because Ed Young and others like him stand behind a Pulpit and quote scripture and say “Jesus is the only way to Heaven” etc. does not mean that they are a Christian or a Pastor.

Ed Young and others like him have shown their true colors over and over again.

Jesus says you will know them by their fruit. LOOK at the words and actions these people show.

Why people are SO afraid to call out False Teachers ( Which Ed and Joel and all the others are) I have no Idea.

God is not mocked, what a man shall show he shall also reap.

I have NO clue why anybody would defend this man and others like him.

Ed Young makes a mockery of the King of Kings

  54. Jeff says:

Wow, It’s amazing how a vidoe created to promote conference for pastors and church leaders can create such controversy among Christians.

Why do Christians insist on attacking one another? My opinion is it is the devil creating spiritual warfare trying to bring the church down.

I’m not a pastor or a church leader but I liked the video. But, I am biased because Ed Young (and fyi, he isn’t a Jr.) is my pastor and has been for the last 11 years. Ed Young led me to Christ and he and Fellowship Church changed my life. Also, I know and have seen hundreds of others who have experienced the same.

And anyone that questions whether or not he teaches the gospel obviously has never attended a service at FC.

Is he creative and different? Yes and that is why I kept attending Fellowship and that is true for many others. Is Ed and Fellowship for everyone? Of course not, but there are a lot of church’s out there that don’t work for me.

Lighten up and let’s focus our energy and attention on the real enemy.

  55. CS says:

    Jeff:

“Why do Christians insist on attacking one another? My opinion is it is the devil creating spiritual warfare trying to bring the church down. ”

Again, you have to remember that some of the people on that video are not Christians and others are heretics. T.D. Jakes denies the Trinity, which means he worships another god. Joel Osteen does not preach the full Gospel and instead preaches a self-help, life-change message. We are called to mark them so people know right from wrong and Jesus’ name is not dragged through the mud (Romans 16:17).

“And anyone that questions whether or not he teaches the gospel obviously has never attended a service at FC.”

We see on the news him teaching people how to have their best sex lives now on The Colbert Report. We see him bragging about his $10,000+ espresso machine in his 7000+ square foot house. We see him dodging questions about use of church resources on news reports. And, we see him making a fool of himself on videos like this. Is it hard to understand how we do not see a man who is tending to his flock and preaching the Gospel, but instead seems to be more focused on other things?

“Lighten up and let’s focus our energy and attention on the real enemy. ”

We’re warned in the Bible that quite often the enemy arises from within.

    CS

  56. Thanks. Thanks a ton. Now I can’t get “A whole nother level…” out of my head. I’ll probably wake up singing it…

  57. shawn says:

    Jeff:

Fyi, he is a junior. His father is Ed Young Sr., longtime pastor of 2nd Baptist Houston. That makes him ed young Jr.

    Just saying.

  58. Jeff says:

    Shawn
Actually, Ed’s father is the Pastor at 2nd Baptist but his name is Homer Edwin Young and Ed is Edwin Barry Young so he isn’t a jr.

The only reason I point it out is that some people judge Ed based on things they have heard in the news, rumors, etc and they don’t even know enough to know something as basic as what his name is.

  59. Jessica says:

I judge Ed based on the fruit I see this man produce. his fruit is not Christ bearing fruit. He is a wolf.

His “sermons” are nothing but man centered self help babble.
He peddles the Gospel for profit.

He’s steals money from the very God he claims he serves.
he also steals money from people who tithe at his church.

He is a False Preacher, a Charlatan, a Thief and a Liar.

Also, People who DARE question him are called “haters” I guess that would make Jesus a “hater” too since he’d def. have some questions he’d want Ed Young to answer.

How about instead of Defending EY, start defending God and HIS word.

  60. Leonard says:

One of the biggest problems with your statement Jessica is found in the first three words.

    I Judge Ed…

Another problem is that you fill in the rest of you statement with opinions that you somehow equate with truth.

  61. Christopher Fontenot says:

Leonard…You don’t seem to like the idea that Jessica judges yet while stating your opposition to her judgment of Ed Young you make yourself to be a hypocrite because you did the same with Joel Osteen. You said that “his church sees numerous people come to Christ…” and don’t know this to be true. You seem to be ok with judging people as saved but not ok with judging people as false teachers by the Word of God. Jesus told us the parable of the sower to show us that not everyone who claims to be a Christian is in fact a Christian. Not everyone who stands in a pulpit is a Christian either. Names like Todd Bentley and Jim Jones come to mind. There is NOTHING wrong with judging as long as we judge righteously and not according to appearance. (John 7:24)

So how do we judge righteously? BY THE WORD OF GOD! Joel Osteen, Ed Young Jr., TD Jakes and the like APPEAR to be Godly yet by the Word of God they fail the test.

Jessica….your discernment seems Biblical to me….good job and don’t be discouraged.

  62. Leonard says:

    CF,

If you are using the biblical word Judge… it means condemn.

What I did is nothing like that. Nice try.

Jessica did not use biblical judgement, she used opinion of Ed Young. There was not scripture used in her assessment, just opinion. There are some people out there who are heretics, I agree. I just don’t think Ed young is one.

  63. Jessica says:

Leonard, This man makes a mockery of Jesus and his precious blood. I have never been to his church, But I have watched Youtube videos where he says that he is the CEO of the church and the franchise player. I also watched the series, “sexual revolution” on Youtube and he mentioned that the “church is the second best place in the universe to learn about sex” and that “sex is the superglue of marriage”. etc. anyways, when his money scandal came out in the open, he basically lied about almost everything.

in another video I watched, he mentions that people who question his motives, he calls them “haters”.

also, If you go to the fellowship website under the Giving page (Tithing) this is what it says:
If a cash gift donation is not an option for you please consider these other gift giving ideas:
    *Stocks
    *Bonds
    *Jewelry
    *Coin Collections
    *Land
    *Cars
    *Homes

not to mention the non sense videos like this one he makes.

The 2008 Easter Youtube videos promoting their Easter services really made my blood boil.

There are several videos like this one on his Youtube page:
    U.B.U.
    Whoop Bass
    The Cussing Pastor

Like Chris said, just because someone is standing behind the pulpit preaching from the Bible, that does not mean that they are a Christian.

Look at Matt Baker (Not comparing the two), he was the former Waco area pastor who killed his wife Kari back in 2006.

Texas Monthly has a very good article about him. Or you can just Google his name.

  64. dr.Love MB says:

I like the honesty of it. In a lland where the $ is worshiped… may as well replace the cross with a gigantic dollar sign. You go homeboy!
Really!!! how lacking in basic good taste :-(

  65. Jessica says:

I feel sad for all of the people who still attend Fellowship, ( I know a couple who does). If Ed Young REALLY cared for his congregation, he would not have T.D. Jakes (Who denies the Trinity) up there talking. He also would not be stealing their money and using it for his own personal usage. He does not care about them at all. he only cares about what HE gets from them.

    That’s not a pastor, that’s a wolf in sheep’s clothing.

When will God put a stop to all of this?

  66. CS says:

    Leonard:

“If you are using the biblical word Judge… it means condemn.”

Actually, there’s three words in the New Testament for judge–krino, anakrino, and dokimazo. The primary definitions of the first are:

    1) to separate, put asunder, to pick out, select, choose
    2) to approve, esteem, to prefer
    3) to be of opinion, deem, think, to be of opinion
    4) to determine, resolve, decree
    5) to judge
    a) to pronounce an opinion concerning right and wrong

So when someone like Jessica makes such a proclamation, it is not to say, “his eternal salvation is in question,” so much as to say, “this man is a false teacher and we should be wary of what he says, does, and teaches.”

can you put something else up here so I don’t have to look at this picture each time I visit your site

  68. Christopher Fontenot says:

Over 200 years ago, Charles Spurgeon wrote this…

“”In reference to ministers, many church members are indifferent as to the personal piety of the preacher; what they want is talent or cleverness. What the man preaches does not matter now; he must draw a crowd, or please the elite, and that is enough. Cleverness is the main thing. One would think they were looking for a conjurer rather than a pastor. Whether he preaches truth or error, the man is held in admiration so long as he can talk glibly, and keep up a reputation as a speaker.”

    I thought it fitting here!

  69. Sorna says:

love it, i was at the conference, thousands of kids were sponsored, women setup to be rescued from trafficking, homes funded and boys on day release in my prison ministry saved and encouraged.

that’s something to sing dance or rap about. Love ya Ed :-)

Seems thats how our current President got elected.

as far as Ed Young is concerened–He is not my Pastor, Mentor, Friend. But he is a brother in Christ. Just as every born again person is (well sister if you are a girl.)

So we have continued praying for you ever since we first heard about you. We ask God to give you a complete understanding of what he wants to do in your lives, and we ask him to make you wise with spiritual wisdom. Then the way you live will always honor and please the Lord, and you will continually do good, kind things for others. All the while, you will learn to know God better and better. We also pray that you will be strengthened with his glorious power so that you will have all the patience and endurance you need. May you be filled with joy, always thanking the Father, who has enabled you to share the inheritance that belongs to God’s holy people, who live in the light. For he has rescued us from the one who rules in the kingdom of darkness, and he has brought us into the Kingdom of his dear Son. God has purchased our freedom with his blood and has forgiven all our sins.

You can always ask God to move in his life Here I will help you. Pray this for Ed Young Jr.

I ask God to give Ed Young Jr. a complete understanding of what he wants to do in Ed Young Jr. life, and I ask him to make Ed Young Jr. wise with spiritual wisdom. Then the way Ed Young Jr. lives will always honor and please the Lord, and Ed Young Jr. will continually do good, kind things for others. All the while, Ed Young Jr. will learn to know God better and better. 71. zentai says:

Such a line head in the coming decades may be more audience, zentai like the bit from some of their star began, such as GAGA Miss (just guessing, after all, many of her wardrobe has gone beyond catsuits), and if the current fashion trend of people dress up more and more unpredictable, and exaggeration of the design seems only to rise. But this so-called "second skin" is really so comfortable, and perhaps only people tried to know the answer.

  72. Jessica says:

Ummm….. How can Ed Young Jr. be a Brother in Christ when he does stuff like this?????
Everything about this man (That I have seen) screams “Wolf” to me.

Just because Ed Young Jr. and others like him APPEAR to be God Fearing Christian Ministers does not mean they are.

Would You consider Joel Osteen a Brother in Christ too even though on Larry King he Denied the Lord THREE times?

  73. Leonard says:

Brian, good word. Sad part is that as right as you are, it will always be followed up with a comment like Jessica’s.

  74. Eric Joppa says:

This is just embarrassing. I am all for funny videos to get excitement up for an event or something, but this is didn’t feel like a parody to me. It felt more like a genuine attempt to do a hip hop video. Maybe that is what bothers me about it…

On a side note, you’d think with all the press that Eddie boy has had lately, he’d avoid images like an obscenely expensive car and a money necklace… Just saying…

  75. Leonard says:

Funny how quick we are to point out other faults… what we should be writing is with our own tendency to judge,,, to gossip… to blow our stack… to speak poorly of others… to call our opinions truth… maybe we should take a moment to relax and laugh… but then that just wouldn’t be Christian.

  76. Eric Joppa says:

Like I said, I am all for fun. I think this could have been hilarious. But just asking for comment and backlash… I am not judging anything. I am asking a question as to how wise it was.

It was also very poorly done. Not funny, just offensive. I can show you 5 or 6 videos done in a hip hop way that were awesome and done well, and didn’t bring unnecessary attention. This just doesn’t seem well thought out….

  77. Rachel says:

This video has lots of ‘in’ jokes from Hillsong Conference in Sydney Australia and concerning the HIllsong church staff. I was at the conference and people loved it! :-)

  78. Jess O says:

Thanks for blessing me with your writings.

Please help a fellow believer raise some money by surfing on over to http://www.hybridhondas.com and clicking on a few of the sponsored links that interest you.

  79. Oliver says:

painful to watch.. I am always suspicious of anyone that names ministries after themselves, its plastered all over the web site “ed young” this and ‘ed young” that, how self absorbed narcisistic do you have to get before you are called out on it?

  80. Jessica says:

I can’t believe that people ACTUALLY think this is funny.

Do you think that Jesus finds this funny?

It is Blasphemy, plain and simple.

Ed Young might as well spit on the Cross

False Teachers like him make me SICK SICK SICK.

  81. Scott says:

Wow people really??? Wow on the video (not sure what to think) and Wow on the comments!!!!! How disappointing all this finger pointing and ranting about WWJD and such. If you don’t like it don’t watch it. If you think it’s wrong then pray and ask God to show Ed and his church where they are wrong. All this blubbering on the internet does nothing for a lost world but cast a negative light on Christians nor does it edify Christ. This is just sad. Sad I tell you!

  82. bobby says:

I’ve never watched someoen disqualify themselves faster in my life. I remember when Ed was good..before he realized he was great…
    then it all wend downhill.
i miss the old ed young..

  83. Gary H says:

I agree Scott. Too many self-appointed experts declaring, “this is just what the world loves to see another hypocrite…” Maybe what the world sees is the propensity to pounce and shread our own in a heartbeat. Then we smile and say “come and join us!” We need a heart revolution!

  84. Matt says:

Wow… people really like to argue and be opinionated online. Pointless. If you wonder what his motives/purposes are… go ask him.

  85. End of the Age says:

~ Mr. Young and his seeker-driver cohorts have surely aided the degradation of humility, service and wisdom. Discernment is traded for a lavish lifestyle (disguised as blessings at the expense of the “church” members via the tithe) and they will stop at nothing to retain their wealth and status.

The Apostle Paul funded his ministry with the skills of trades he had learned as a young man. A man who is paid to be a pastor as his job just never sat right with me.

But what do I know? I’m not a church goer much at all anymore, so I guess my opinion is invalid. I’m just an observer of the humble, small churches being gobbled up by seeker-driver and emergent type churches.

I will support the small churches that still sing from a hymnal with passion rather than put on a laser modern rock concert with by the numbers lyrics.

    Ed Young is a disgrace.
