This looks more like the coronation of an African dictator like Edi Amin than a church service.
John 6:15
Jesus, knowing that they intended to come and make him king by force, withdrew again to a mountain by himself.
Mind blowing. I would have would have NOT allowed that to happen, in fear of what might happen as a result. I understand the well intentions of the speaker, but good intentions mean nothing when truth is misinterpreted. Humility before the Kingship of Jesus alone is totally missing here. I’m tired of The Purpose Drive Life, but I have to give Brother Warren his due: “It’s not about (me or you)…it’s about Jesus”.
Wow…just…wow. Unless you live in areas where churches like Long’s church exist, you may find this hard to understand. Yet this attitude toward some pastors seems to be very prevalent. (although I must admit, Eddie did look kinda uncomfortable at times) However, before we are too quick to condemn, all of us pastors and leaders are susceptible to this kind of sin…we just go about it more subtly and in our own hearts most of the time. We must be careful to stay humble and keep Jesus on the throne of our own hearts. While we may not ever choose to remove Him from His throne, we do many times try to sit alongside Him. Pray for your pastor…
Steve, Your right. In all honesty what Eddie Long does is not the reason I read this blog. I read it to keep me looking in the mirror. In what ways do I try to be king? Keep me humble Jesus, and pray for your pastor!!
I do wonder if some of the discomfort on Eddie’s face is because it is pretty unnerving to be physically up that high, dependent upon other people to keep holding you up, and the whole time be swaying back and forth (though I wonder if that is also a picture of the precarious nature of being a religious leader held up only by mere men.)
Isn’t he the preacher that was recently accused of sexually molesting young men? Didn’t he settled out of court for millions of dollars? As I remember, there was never any repentance for his actions. Am I wrong? And now this….what an embarrassment to the Church of Christ that invites more ridicule.
This kind of stuff IS to a greater extent what too many believe goes on such places of worship. And to a greater or lesser extent Steve nails it. There is no end to the hucksters who dare steal the glory due only one. Mega-churches, Mega-egos, megalomaniac. The One true God is indeed one patient and long-suffering One to put up with this nonsense in His/Her Name.
“The King” Apologizes | OpenArms.tv - [...] To Long’s credit, he did look a little bewildered and slightly annoyed during the ceremony that made viral status ...
if you figure it out, please let me know because I’m clueless.
Actually this made me throwup in my mouth. Completely disgusting.
Found this response to the video.

Umm…words can not express what is in my mind. This is contrary to the servant role Jesus spoke about in Mark!
Even Eddie has a look on his face sometimes in this video that says “Please let this be over now…”
I have some atheist friends who probably will see this and think I’m even crazier than they did before… Thanks Eddie and company…

“…and I’m gonna pull off the foreskin on this.”
Oooooooo…..uh, quite unfortunate wording there….
There are two words to help someone trying to understand this… isogesis and heresy. Wow. Just. Wow.
In the movie chicken run, after an inspiring speech, one of the chickens commented… I have never heard so much crap. This reminded me of chicken run.

This is offensive to Pastors (the humble and serving ones), churches, the Scriptures, and the nature of Jesus himself. What BS.
It’s not the crime, its the cover-up!
The is blasphemous! Some people will pay any amount of money to elevate themselves before others. This makes me sick! Jesus is the only King!

Best comments here, Steve. Thank you!
Well put Steve!

I didn’t know it could be piled this high.
Watched the video – I am dumbfounded! The real King is grieving…
Never seen anything like this? I have. The coronation of King Harley Race! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6De6GMFyzw Scroll and everything.
Do you think we can get Eddie to come to the next Elephant Room? I would pay to see that.
Dude, I’d like to see him and James McDonald or Mark Driscoll at the same table…
or even better, Matt Chandler. Matt would probably have a GREAT way to put some, uh, perspective on it…
Let us pray for one another, this may be your test as well.
