Robertson: God will destroy America

Pat Robertson’s take on the recent New York decision to legalize gay marriage:

On this one, I think Pat really doesn’t say anything that many Christians don’t buy into, at least to some point.  Is God happy with the New York decision?  What do you think?

  1. Of course God will destroy America. With his sure hand of providence, every day, the America that everyone knows is disappearing into the hourglass. But not for embracing homosexuality or other hot-button moral issues of the day. That’s reductionistic, myopic, and other big words that rhyme with “ick!”

At the same time, God is building a new America. And God has called us to reach her with the Gospel. Robertson’s message of destruction and curse does more to dissatisfy pastors and serious laypeople from sharing and caring than any liberal ever could. It creates a spirit of self-loathing and looming darkness from which holiness and self-sacrifice and Christ-exaltation never flow.

Let me be clear. If God is going to strike us down, it will be because of false prophets that we did not discipline in the church, not homosexuals outside the church (1 Cor 5:12).

For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Is it not those inside the church whom you are to judge? 13God judges those outside. “Purge the evil person from among you.”

I have to wonder if God sometimes rolls his eyes at our human decisions. :-)

I think, Rob, that God rolls his eyes at more than just our decisions, but also our comments, our intentions and our judgments. I can’t disagree with Pat Robertson on his view of history, however I do think he is pushing buttons that will damage relationships that many people have been trying to build with those who are not followers of Jesus! We don’t have to worry about the enemy taking us out, we do a pretty good job of taking ourselves out! Why is it that well intentioned believers push judgment and damnation on those who hold no commitment to God instead of showing them the hope and freedom from sin that can be found in Jesus? Makes no sense to me!
