Do it right.

“If You Don’t Have Time to Do It Right, When Will You Have Time to Do It Over?” -coach John Wodden What are you speeding through trying to get done quickly and uneffectively today?  And how in the world will you ever have the time next week to do it all again? It’s an easy trap to get in, and a cycle that we need to break. What do you need to do right the first time today? Link Todd

Is Church Membership Biblical?

Matt Chandler writes:  I was 28 when I became the pastor of Highland Village First Baptist Church (now known as The Village Church). I had had a rough go early on in my church experience, and at that time I was not fully out of my “disenchanted with the local church” phase. In all honesty, I wasn’t sure at the time that church membership was biblical. Despite that, the Spirit had made it all too clear that I was going to be pastoring this small church in the suburbs of Dallas. That was one of the many ironies of my life...

People Don’t Read

KillerChurch.com writes:  It’s not that people can’t read . . . they just don’t. Did you see the changes to the “warning labels” on cigarette packages that are coming down? It’s amazing to see the contrast between the original warning label on cigarettes from 1966 . . . and today. Our culture continues to march towards being totally post-literate.  More people in your church relate to ideas, concepts, and data through images and visual stimulation than in any other point in recent human...

Google+ First Impressions

Google+ First Impressions

I whined and moaned and complained that I couldn’t get in to the first round of Google+.  A lot of people sent me invitations and tried to get me in, but to no avail, until Google briefly opened the door for some new people last night.  I was in!  Here are my first impressions. At first, I was underwhelmed.  The interface (especially the streams) take a little getting used to.  It’s nice, but a little harder on the eyes than twitter (with defined tweets) or facebook.  All the videos, links, thumbnails, pics, etc....

Don’t Say This…

I’m not sure where this statement came from, but many churches have said it.  I think our church still says this regularly… but it’s something that Casey Graham says you should NOT say this weekend or ever… because it’s simply not true: If this is your first time here, we don’t want you to give. Casey says:  Let EVERYONE in attendance know that the offering is a time for people to support the mission and vision of your church. via Do NOT Say This In Church This Weekend. What do you...

Moral Revolution

Moral Revolution

Al Mohler recently wrote a post on how he feels the church in facing a moral revolution in the area of homosexuality.  Read this and see if you agree… The liberal churches and denominations have an easy way out of this predicament. They simply accommodate themselves to the new moral reality. By now the pattern is clear: These churches debate the issue, with conservatives arguing to retain the older morality and liberals arguing that the church must adapt to the new one. Eventually, the liberals win and the conservatives lose. Next,...

UK Methodists Pledge

The Methodist Church in the UK has agreed that failure to acknowledge the urgent need for radical cuts in greenhouse gas emissions was “morally irresponsible” in a statement adopted by the Church this week. via Methodists commit to carbon reduction pledge. REALLY?  That’s the best you can come up with?  Greenhouse gas emissions? How about a statement adopting something scripture is clear about (or even...

Mugshot

Whilest I was doing the previous post, I found this mugshot from John Maxwell from his episode with the law a few years ago.  Hadn’t seen this before… but thought you might enjoy it. Moral of the story:  Remember to unpack your firearm before going to the airport. And in case you’re wondering and are ready to send me a mean email about posting this… John actually posted it himself...

John Maxwell Ringtones

Thanks to Linda Stanley (@lindastanley) for passing this along. This is real, folks.  John Maxwell now has ringtones.  John call actually alert you to new phone calls with an inspirational quote or irrefutable law.  For just $1.99 each. (I’ll record some wit and wisdom for you, and personally use your name for just $.99) Something like, “Harry, this is Todd… quite reading your Bible, you have a phone call.” or Zelda, you’re such a great leader.  Sorry to interrupt, but you have a call.” It would...
